Built in 1734 and enlarged twice, this manor house is one of the few remaining vestiges of New France and its seigneurial system. It was originally the residence of Jean Mauvide, a surgeon, merchant, and seigneur, and his wife, Marie-Anne Genest dit Labarre. The union produced five children, none of whom left descendants. The residence was then occupied by the Turcotte family until its purchase in 1926 by Judge Joseph-Camille Pouliot. The Mauvide-Genest Seigneury Development Corporation acquired the manor house in 1999. Now known as the Mauvide-Genest Manor Foundation, it currently occupies the premises and manages the accredited museum. Carefully restored and reconstructed around the turn of the millennium, the Mauvide-Genest Manor offers a fascinating glimpse into daily life in the 18th century.
